Materialinpresentation
The material before and after the work ...

Isabel Berglund

04.09. – 01.10. 2009

Isabel Berglund has created an exhibition specific made for KBH Kunsthal where she shows various sculptures and installations in the 7 glass cases. In her sculptures Berglund joins knitted work and word work together with odd objects. From robs and strings hang different objects existing of colourful and abstract forms mixed with recognizable figures - such as a wig, a piece of toy ...

In the work of Berglund there is a profound interest in the materials that she uses. That becomes evident in her way of putting emphasis on the handling of the materials and their visuals quality that stands out in the handling. She works insistently with contrasts such as lightness and heaviness between the woods weight and the soft forms of the knitting. Her work takes its starting point from the tradition of pop art, which Berglund combines with her certain sense of forms and materials she knows from the world of fashion. There is a clear consistency in her interest for the distinctive existence of the material and her ’play-full’ relation to the work.

Isabel Berglund is a knitting designer and artist educated in London from Central Saint Martins with a MA in Fashion Knitwear. After her diploma she has worked both in the fashion industry and in the art world. This summer she exhibited ’Knitted Green Pollution’ – a knitted chimney more than 7 meters high and 4 meters wide existing of more or less 400 pieces of squares, showed at Gallery int. at Fashion Fair Cph in Forum in connection with Copenhagen Fashion Week. Earlier this year she took part in the exhibition ’Stof til eftertanke’ at Koldinghus in South of Denmark as well as ’It is Beautiful here’ Fiskars Ruukki in Finland, and in the fall she will take part in the Craft Biennale in Korea.
