THE ORDINARY MAN'S EDIFYING EXCURSION CABINET At the exhibition The Ordinary Man’s Edifying Excursion Cabinet at Kbh Kunsthal Hartmut Stockter presents several of his works that all take shapes as tools and instruments. In the seven glass cases Stockter shows among others The Songbird Jukebox – an unconventional jukebox that doesn’t play recorded songs but with the right food the right one of the four birds will sing. The Panorama Periscope – the bearer obtains a constant panorama view of his surroundings on his trip. And The Butterfly Scale – a practical tool for any gardener concerned about the wellbeing of his winged companions. One of Harmut Stockters approaches to art is the landscape. He doesn’t work with picturing the landscape in a traditional way but with his work he provides people with tools for viewing landscapes from different and new perspectives. Stockter doesn’t want to change the landscape but with the help of the handmade devices Stockter helps obtain a better understanding of natures own intelligence. And thereby with his poetic approach shows parts of nature that we often forget in our high productive and effective society. Hartmut Stockter is educated at Brauschweigs Art Academy in Germany and has since 1995 exhibited a vast number of places in Denmark and abroad. Latest he toke part in Meget kunne være anderledes – en hilsen til Storm P. Brøndsalen, Copenhagen and Fugle i Frøperspektiv, DUNK!, Copenhagen. Stockter lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
