ANNA GULMANN The KBH Kunsthal shows the results of a workshop on upholster held by the designer Anna Gulmann done in cooperation with the design students at Krabbesholm Højskole. Anna Gulmann has set the students the task to upholster an already existing chair. Upholster are suppose to give the chair a new function, a new design and a new life. Thereby the task is to think out who is going to use the chair, where should it be placed and what should the experience be like to sit in the chair. Often upholster is associated with grandfathers cozy chair in the corner of the living room but in the resent years it is going through a renewal. From having been detested by the functionalists upholster is now being taken in again by today’s designers, who are trying to rethink the possibilities of covering furniture and to use the technique of drapery and new principles of cutting out as one best know it from the art of tailoring and the feminine fashion world. Anna Gulmann is original a fashion designer. She toke her degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 2001 and started the same year her own brand, Anna Gulmann. Anna Gulmann works with a conceptual approach and with a lot of humor. In the brand she has designed clothing for her fictive muse Kirsty. This curly-haired muse changing leisure-time activity from circus performing and gardening to chess and jitterbug has been carried out in collections signed by Kristy’s unpredictable achievements. Anna Gulmann decided last year to stop her career as a fashion designer and instead throw her self into other fields of design. In the coming year one can experience Gulmanns design in various occasions: An exhibition at the museum of Trapholt, costumes for a dance performance at K2 and illustrations to a book for children are just some of the things her audience can look forward to.
