RANDI OG KATRINE Randi and Katrine (DK) is an artist group that lives and works in Copenhagen. They received their diploma from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 and their final the project was called Temapark (Theme Park). The works of Randi & Katrine represent a joint interest in the combination of architectural, adventurous spaces and objects that unfolds a wealth of stories. Randi & Katrine work with large scale objects which dynamically creates an exchange between the observer and a specific room filled with incredible and fascinating spatial elements. Temapark (2005) is a good example of these spatial interplays. The work is a peepshow in full size. When you look into the peepshow, there are elements of the romantic garden tradition of the 19th century. The project was originally built at GL. Strand and a wall was built so that the room behind looks like a painting when you are standing outside. The characteristic of Randi & Katrine is the fascination of visual angles and how people are fascinated and formed by the romantic tradition that suddenly appears in the peepshow. Randi & Katrine was invited to participate in the autumn exhibition 2006. In this connection, they produced a place specific installation with the title Orcades (2006) at Charlottenborg. This installation invites the viewer to go exploring a luxurious landscape of products from all over the world. As on a pedestrian street, you walk around as viewer and are filled with impressions together with other visitors. The shops sell everything – from luxurious journeys in winter as well as summer, to dispensable accessories and objects from far and near. Some of these objects are now displayed in one of the seven exhibition cases at Krabbesholm and are elegantly displayed in order to allure the people passing by. At a heightened platform, bags are displayed. Bags thal all have the theme traveling – a ship, a plane and a suitcase with the text Bon Voyage. This way, Randi & Katrine are absorbed in their art by exploring how we as human beings culturally appropriate space in the every day life and what happens when perceptions shift both mentally and physically through the works. The question regarding disturbances in the common perception of space and structures when you lose your bearings of yourself as individual or as a group. |
